According to Cointelegraph, the crypto exchage CoinEx disclosed the progress of the previous hacking incident, saying that the leak of private keys resulted in hackers stealing tokens worth more than $70 million. However, the exchange claims that this amount represents only a small portion of its total assets under management and that affected users will be fully compensated for all lost funds.
CoinEx stated that it is still investigating the identity of the person responsible for the security breach, and some blockchain security companies believe that the attacker was North Korean hacker Lazarus Group. In addition, CoinEx has opened communication channels to the hackers "to reach a mutually agreeable solution."
According to previous news, as of September 13, security company Beosin calculated that CoinEx’s losses were at least US$53 million . Afterwards , CoinEx stated on September 18 that it would gradually resume withdrawal and other services within 7 working days, and that 50% of the wallet system reconstruction had been completed .
