The National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) has reorganized the Kazakhstan Interbank Settlement Center (KISC) and established the National Payments Corporation (NPC), with the aim of overseeing the testing of the Tenge digital currency (CBDC). .
In the NBK's official statement, NPC will be responsible for developing the financial infrastructure for CBDC, while also overseeing the national payment system, including checking interbank payments, remittances and digital identification.
Kazakhstan's CBDC pilot project is testing features that enable real user and merchant participation. One of the main partners of the project is Binance — since the Tenge coin is tested on the BNB Chain.
The National Bank of Kazakhstan also recently said that it will test SWIFT's technical solution for cross-border payments using CBDC.
