Gitcoin is a donation platform for open source software. Users can support various decentralized open source projects through Gitcoin. Early projects can also receive donations on Gitcoin to maintain operations.

Some well-known projects such as Uniswap, 1inch, MaskNetwork, ENS, etc. have participated in Gitcoin Grants, so Gitcoin is also called the "Arsenal of Ethereum."

In each round of Gitcoin Grants, in addition to receiving donations from users, Gitcoin will also use the Quadratic Funding model to allocate funds from the Ethereum Foundation to high-quality projects. This allocation method has also been supported by V God. (Vitalik Buterin)’s recognition has greatly promoted the community impact of Gitcoin Grants.

Gitcoin Grants donation activities have been carried out 18 times so far (16 rounds + Alpha Round + Beta Round). In the process of helping the project grow, it also brings rewards such as token airdrops to donors. More and more users are using Gitcoin Enter the world of Web3.

Gitcoin has been exploring more efficient ways to donate, and is committed to moving from secondary matching donations (that is, QF's centralized grants) to GitcoinDAO: creating a decentralized and customizable grant protocol.

With the Gitcoin Alpha Round in January 2023 and the Gitcoin Beta Round in April, Gitcoin has improved its donation methods and will conduct Gitcoin Grants 19 from November 15 to November 29, 2023.

01 Gitcoin Grants 19 Introduction

1. Gitcoin Grants 19 is the 19th round of the Gitcoin series of donations. Since 2023, Gitcoin has tested a new donation matching method, Grants Stack, through Alpha Round and Beta Round, transferring past centralized donations to a donation method initiated, voted, and managed by the community, helping communities that apply for donations build a good chain. reputation, while allocating funds to projects that are more popular with users.

2. GG19 donations are divided into two parts : Program Rounds and Community Rounds . Selected projects need to meet qualifications such as "not raising large amounts of external funds through venture capital, token issuance or NFT sales." .

https://gitcoin.notion.site/GG19-Eligibility-50843c8b3ab44ad297731a00efa6e389

3. Program Rounds refer to specific grant rounds that are directly managed and overseen by the Gitcoin Grants Program Team (GPT, formerly PGF). Projects selected for this round need to be in line with Gitcoin's mission and values, emphasizing transparency, decentralization and community participation.

There are three parts this time, with a total matching pool of $600,000:

  • Ethereum Infrastructure (200,000 USDC)
  • Web3 Community & Education (200,000 DAI)
  • Web3 Open Source Software (200,000 DAI)

4. Community Rounds are matching pools set by external partners. The setting of this round provides a more decentralized and community-driven approach, allowing external entities to take the lead in organizing and participating in management.

There are nine parts in this round, with a total matching pool of approximately US$640,000:

  • Arbitrum Citizens Retrofunding Round 1
  • Meta Pool
  • Global Chinese Community
  • Token Engineering Commons (TEC)
  • Open Civics
  • Climate Solutions
  • Web3 Social
  • Meta Gov - Governance Research
  • 1inchLatAm

5. The duration of Gitcoin Grants 19 is from 12:00 UTC on November 15 to 23:59 UTC on November 29. You can follow Biteye’s official Twitter for the latest updates on donations.

https://twitter.com/BiteyeCN

Gitcoin Grants 19 supports donations on multiple chains: Arbitrum, Optimism, PGN, etc. PGN, the full name of Public Goods Network, is an L2 specially designed for donations.

Using both OP and PGN donations will greatly reduce network fees, and you can use Minibridge to quickly bridge assets to the target chain:

6. The anti-witch method of Gitcoin Grants 19 still uses Gitcoin Passport . As a verification method, Passport has been adopted by projects such as Linea and Link3. It is recommended that everyone pay attention to it.

Users can log in and bind social media and wallets to increase their weight. Because Gitcoin Passport is reset every 90 days, users need to relink before donating.

Only users who reach 15 points or above in this round can get additional matching donations. You can learn how to set up Gitcoin Passport in this tweet.

In addition, you can also use the Chaineye Gitcoin panel to view the current donation status of various categories of projects. You can choose to quickly find popular projects in different sections according to the donation amount and number of donors:

02 Gitcoin Grants 19 Donation Suggestions

Based on past rounds of donations, Biteye has summarized the following donation suggestions:

1. Although Gitcoin has no limit on donation amount, the minimum amount of each project is at least greater than 1U. On the other hand, due to the price fluctuation of ETH, you can choose DAI to donate; if you use eth to donate, considering the price fluctuation, it is recommended to donate 0.001eth Above; (Note: Some project parties only use donation as the criterion for airdrops, while some projects will use the donation amount as the weight)

2. Gitcoin donation is a good on-chain interaction behavior. Optimism and Celestia once considered "users making Gitcoin donations on the main network" as one of the weights of airdrops. Donation is also a low-cost method to increase Passport scores;

3. Use MiniBridge to donate funds across the PGN chain, which can minimize network fees and interact with the PGN chain recommended by the official;

4. Donation should not be too late. It is easy to encounter network congestion when donating in the last few days, resulting in missing the donation time;

5. Verify your passport to a score of 15 or above before making a donation. The 15-25 range will receive higher weight as the score increases;

6. It is recommended that multi-account users pay attention to the diversity of donations when donating, and can adopt a 2+1 donation method, that is, 2 target projects plus 1 random project.
