[Blockchain Today Reporter Han Ji-hye] It has been reported that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has demanded a settlement of 4 billion dollars (5.148 trillion won) from Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange.
On the 20th (local time), Bloomberg News reported that the U.S. Department of Justice demanded $4 billion from Binance in exchange for ending the ongoing criminal lawsuit. This amount is three times the amount that the DOJ confiscated in 2012 from HSBC, Europe's largest financial company, for alleged anti-money laundering and sanctions violations.
It has also been reported that the settlement talks could potentially see Binance founder Changpeng Zhao face criminal charges in the United States.
As the crypto industry takes notice of the record fines, prominent figures like Mike Novogratz are offering optimistic outlooks.

Novogratz, a prominent investor, expressed his positive outlook via X shortly after the news broke, saying, “I would be very optimistic if Binance comes to an agreement with US regulators.” He added, “I’m not sure if the report is true, but I personally hope that an agreement is reached and the industry moves forward.”
Binance's native token, BNB, also responded positively to the news, surging more than 7% in price, according to CoinGecko data.
