Vitalik just put a nail to the coffin for L2s
With ETH L1 now scaling, there’s no more need for an L2 whose promise is lower fees and faster transactions
But not all L2s are moot. If an L2 can focus on one of these, they can futureproof themselves:
1️⃣ Privacy
2️⃣ Social layer
3️⃣ AI
4️⃣ Metaverse
5️⃣ Creator layer
In short, L2s need to specialize on something and not be a generic L2. Plus, they have to be heavily integrated to mainnet too
This new development makes me think about Garga’s long post before about L1 vs. L2s and how having a “super app” can be the bloodline of the L2
In their case, Otherside is the super app
If Otherside can onboard millions without them knowing that they’re onchain, they won’t ever have to know about ApeChain. They will just have to know about value of ownership and ease of transactions in the platform
It’s a good time to ask L2s now… take away speed and low cost as differentiators, what’s your Unique Selling Proposition?
