The journalist’s position is completely rational. Once you acknowledge that racial differences are genetic, you’re forced to debate whether racial outcomes are genetic. If you allow even a whisper of doubt to take root there, suddenly more than half a century of Western institutional-legal-cultural arrangements lose legitimacy. So you deny that even skin color is genetic, dig your trench, set up fortifications, and calmly defend that position to the bitter end. You also accuse your opponents of racism. What else could the journalist possibly say? She said the thing she has to say as a relatively untalented person who cannot professionally afford to break those taboos, even if the thing she says is wrong. Do you expect midwits to heroically state the obvious thing that even dumb people understand if that means they will be kicked in the teeth and unable to find work? Of course not.
