Looking back, the biggest mistake I made when I was young and made quick money was flaunting my wealth. Buying cars, watches, treating people to meals, always insisting on paying the bill—I was afraid everyone wouldn't know I was doing well. What does flaunting wealth mean? It's like constantly advertising: I'm rich, I'm inexperienced, I'm a walking blood bank, come and drain me! As a result, many people have their eyes on you, and it's hard to distinguish who your true friends are and who's there to set you up. Especially when you're in the prime of your life, brimming with the power of ignorance, it's easy to feel invincible. This is why many young people in their twenties who suddenly become wealthy in small towns, or those who benefit from land expropriation, find it hard to avoid this pitfall. They try to fill the void of inferiority and emptiness with outward appearances, feeling they've finally proven themselves, but essentially they're just living in a self-created illusion. If your upbringing lacked security, this impulse is almost inevitable. I myself couldn't avoid it, and even now, I rarely see anyone who can.
