8⃣: Xinjiang miners shut down hashrate, causing global Bitcoin hashrate decline. Chinese Bitcoin miners in Xinjiang voluntarily shut down approximately 1.3-1.63 GW of hashrate, equivalent to 100 EH/s and 400,000-500,000 machines, after regulatory authorities investigated their social media promotion. Although mining was banned in 2021, underground operations still accounted for about 14% of global hashrate. This move caused global Bitcoin hashrate to drop by 5.6% to approximately 1062 EH/s from December 12th.
