[ Cracking Bitcoin in 9 Minutes?… Google: “Hacking Possible with Quantum Computers” ]
- Google Quantum AI researchers announced research results in a white paper that fall significantly short of previous estimates that Bitcoin’s encryption system could be decrypted with only 500,000 qubits of computational power.
- If transactions occur with public keys exposed, the private key can be discovered within approximately 9 minutes—the time it takes for a Bitcoin block to be generated—with a 41% probability of asset theft, leaving one-third of the total supply at risk.
- Google pointed out that a transition to a quantum-resistant environment must be made within three years ahead of the quantum computer era in 2029; however, despite these announcements, market prices, including Bitcoin, have remained unchanged without significant fluctuations.
💡 Beyond protecting physical infrastructure, the speed of transition to quantum-resistant encryption within the protocol itself is expected to serve as a benchmark determining future trust and survival.
