In 10+ years of hoping for positive developments in governance, empirically we have only gotten obvious improvements in, like, El Salvador, and that's it. "Gross Domestic Governance" is stagnant or negative everywhere. We are living through a global governance great depression.

We don't get "recessions" anymore. We get "corrections," which is when everyone pulls their money out of tech stonks for six months in a fit of mass panic before once again dumping all their money back into tech stonks when they realize there is nothing else to invest in.

Peter Thiel says Mamdani deserves credit for at least talking about young people's economic problems, and that Millennials increasingly see "capitalism" as an "unfair racket" that is "just an excuse for people ripping you off." I hope everyone under the age of 40 realizes that they are never going to see a single cent of the pensions they pay 10-20% of their income for in taxes.

As bad as things get, we know we are nowhere close to the bottom so long as there isn't mass emigration of Western citizens to safe foreign countries. This will likely happen, so we have a ways to go. Imagine Western immigrant communities in Dubai, China, Albania, El Salvador...

Unless we figure out how to rapidly raise fertility rates in the developed world to 3+ children per woman, both social democracy and industrial technological civilization are guaranteed cooked by the end of the century. The math just doesn't add up without way more people, fast.

It's incredible how little agency and space for agency there is in our society that basically every obvious opportunity for political action or economic development is basically just waiting around and screaming to be done, in vain—until Elon Musk, again, decides to do it.
