BTC futures sentiment shows a subtle shift: as of March 5, 2026, 52.5% of accounts are short versus 47.5% long, pushing the long/short ratio to 0.90 at $72.7K. Despite price consolidations, institutional positioning remains slightly skewed bearish, highlighting growing caution among top traders ahead of potential volatility.

Classic deleveraging phase. BTC futures positioning is unwinding fast. Over the last three months, total open interest across major venues (Binance, Bybit, OKX, Deribit, Hyperliquid) has trended lower as price has sold off sharply, with a clear acceleration in the OI drawdown during the most recent leg down.
