I just helped another colleague set up Gemini in Chrome. After some back-and-forth wrestling with it, here are the main steps:
- Change your computer's system region and language to: United States / English (optional, but best)
- Change your Chrome browser language to: English (required)
- Use a US internet connection for Google/AI: preferably long-term
- Change your Google account to US: also optional, try changing the IP address here policies.google.com/country-as...…，需要审核，失败了就用美国 and then try again with your Google account.
- Finally, exit Chrome, open Terminal, and run the following four commands. Copy and press Enter to change Chrome settings:

Then restart Chrome. It should appear with a 90% success rate.
Once it appears, if your Chrome browser has other profiles, you can use it directly. However, if your account doesn't meet the above requirements, it might be revoked occasionally; just start over. The sidebar mode adds a Share tab and native AI Assistant capabilities compared to the web version, making it convenient for dealing with websites that don't offer public access and troubleshooting.
