TechFlow to TechFlow, on January 19th, PeckShieldAlert reported that on January 10th, a user fell victim to a hardware wallet social engineering scam, losing over $282 million worth of BTC and LTC. ZachXBT's investigation revealed that the attackers used THORChain to convert 928.7 BTC (approximately $71 million) into 19,631.1 ETH, 3.15 million XRP, and 77,200 LTC.
The attackers then dispersed the funds: laundering 1,468.66 ETH ($4.9 million) through TornadoCash, transferring 735 ETH ($2.4 million) to WhiteBit, 2,402 ETH ($8 million) to KuCoin, 143 ETH ($477,000) to Huobi, and sending an additional 100 ETH to ChangeNOW. The relevant exchanges have not yet released any countermeasures.
