Google recently announced the launch of a free SAT practice test service powered by Gemini. It's very simple to use: just type "I want to take a practice SAT test" into Gemini to get free practice questions. (The author tried it and found it to be usable.)
After the test is completed, Gemini will also analyze the results, point out the student's strengths and areas for improvement, and provide detailed explanations for incorrect answers.
To ensure the quality of the questions, Google stated that it has partnered with educational institutions such as the Princeton Review to ensure that the practice questions are professionally reviewed and highly similar to the actual SAT exam.
What is the SAT exam?
The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a standardized test for college admissions in the United States, administered by the College Board. This test primarily assesses students' reading, writing, and math skills and is considered one of the important requirements for applying to American universities.
An opportunity for equal access to education
Due to intense competition, many students invest a significant amount of time and money in preparing for the SAT, leading to a booming tutoring and cram school industry. However, personalized SAT tutoring is often prohibitively expensive, making it unaffordable for many students.
Google's provision of free resources is expected to allow more students to compete on a level playing field, narrowing the gap in educational resources. On the other hand, free AI test preparation tools may also provide more personalized tutoring services, similar to having a private SAT tutor.
Google's Education Strategy
Just before this new feature was released, Google had launched Gemini-powered podcast audio lessons in the middle of the month. Other Gemini educational tools include features to help teachers brainstorm, create lesson plans, and tailor teaching materials for classes.
