On May 26, former US President Donald Trump, who was skeptical of Bitcoin, posted on his social platform Truth Social on the eve of his planned attendance at the Libertarian Party National Convention that he was "positive and open" to the cryptocurrency industry.
Trump has publicly expressed his distrust of cryptocurrencies, believing that the U.S. dollar should be the world's currency. But with the 2024 election approaching and after the launch of the NFT project named after him, Trump seems to have changed his mind about the crypto industry. He said in the post that the United States must maintain its leading position in the field, and the Biden administration hopes that the crypto industry will "slowly die."
Trump's comments come on the eve of his speech at the Libertarian Party's national convention on Saturday night, where he may try to persuade voters not to support third-party candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has frequently expressed pro-crypto and anti-regulatory views. Just days ago, the Trump campaign launched a tool that allows supporters to donate in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
