Telegram founder Pavel Durov detailed how “hundreds of millions of people” will get acquainted with blockchain technology through the messaging app this year.
On July 19, Durov announced that the messaging app will launch a Mini Apps store and an in-app browser with Web3 support at the end of July.
How does Telegram plan to implement the new plan?
As noted by BeInCrypto, this initiative comes as interest in Telegram Mini Apps (TMAs) skyrockets. TMAs are lightweight, JavaScript-based services within the Telegram application. They are easy to set up and can be used for a variety of purposes.
Recently, Telegram reported that more than 500 million users interact with mini-apps monthly to purchase products, access services, and play games. The platform's integration with the TON blockchain has led to a boom in cryptocurrency-based games, especially following the success of the coin-to-tap game Notcoin .
Earlier this month, Durov praised Hamster Kombat , another money-making game, for its rapid growth. This game attracted 239 million users in three months, with an Medium traffic of 4-5 million per day. Lightyear added .
Still, market experts believe Durov's plan will greatly boost Web3 adoption by making the technology accessible to millions of Web2 messaging app users. However, the growing popularity can also attract bad actors looking to take advantage of crypto newcomers. Notably, security platform Web3 Slow Mist recently reported an increase in fraudulent activities targeting users of the TON blockchain network.
Durov acknowledged this, saying public user accounts will now display the month and country of registration. Additionally, Mini Apps will be able to issue labels to channels, thereby creating a decentralized marketplace for third-party verification.
“Soon, Telegram will start showing signup month and primary country for public accounts (similar to Instagram). We will also enable organizations to use their mini apps to issue labels to channels, creating a decentralized marketplace for third-party verification,”
