On September 18 , WisdomTree launched a new platform called WisdomTree Connect, focusing on the Tokenize of real-world assets (RWA) based on Ethereum.
The goal of the platform is to enable customers to interact with any Token issued by WisdomTree across multiple blockchains.
WisdomTree Connect enables businesses to access yield-generating products through blockchain technology with an integrated record-keeping system. Businesses will receive digital records of WisdomTree digital funds in their wallets. These Token can be stored in self-custody or held in 3rd party custody services.
Will Peck, Head of Digital Assets at WisdomTree, said that the growing interest in Tokenize real-world assets prompted the creation of WisdomTree Connect.
This opens up many practical opportunities for both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-business-to-consumer (B2B2C) businesses, he added, allowing WisdomTree to provide on-chain businesses with access to digital funds without leaving the ecosystem.
The announcement clarifies that the platform will initially support access via a web portal and API, with plans to experience decentralized application ( dApp ) interactions in the future. Institutional users can purchase or redeem Token using US dollars or the stablecoin USD Coin ( USDC ).
WisdomTree Connect complements the company's direct-to-consumer app, WisdomTree Prime, with digital asset solutions spanning the entire customer spectrum.
WisdomTree Migration to Ethereum Possible
According to RWA.xyz , the total market value of Tokenize US government bonds has exceeded $2.2 billion. Currently, WisdomTree offers seven different Tokenize products, accounting for a total value of $12.2 million. This makes the company not appear in the list of top 10 issuers by total Tokenize.
This asset management product ranges from short-term to long-term bonds, with maturity liquidation ranging from 7 to 10 years.
It is worth noting that six of WisdomTree's seven products are issued on the Stellarblockchain platform, while the Token Mint by WisdomTree Connect use the Ethereum network.
While the announcement does reveal plans to add support for other blockchains in the future, it is unclear whether WisdomTree’s current products will be ported to Ethereum.
Stellar is currently the second largest blockchain infrastructure for Tokenize US government bonds, with $426.5 million in bonds issued in Token form, largely thanks to Franklin Templeton's FOBXX Tokenize Fund.
Meanwhile, Ethereum holds over $1.6 billion in digital representations of US government bonds, while BlackRock leads the way with over $521 million in Tokenize stocks for its BUIDL fund.
Therefore, if WisdomTree plans to integrate their Token with dApps, moving to Ethereum makes sense, as this decentralized ecosystem is the largest in terms of total value locked.
