Documentary filmmaker Cullen Hoback and HBO have just announced their upcoming film, “ Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery ,” with the promise that the true identity of Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto , may be revealed.
Cullen Hoback is known for his HBO miniseries “Q: Into the Storm,” in which he claims to have identified some of the authors behind the QAnon conspiracy theory.
In his latest project, Hoback investigates the origins of Bitcoin with the apparent goal of tracking down the true identity of the engineer known as “ Satoshi Nakamoto ” – the person credited with inventing Bitcoin and its underlying technology.
“Some of you may be wondering why I disappeared. Actually, I’m looking for someone else who also disappeared. Curious about who’s behind Bitcoin? MoneyElectric: The Bitcoin Mystery is coming out next Tuesday. It’s going to be a thrilling ride.”
Hoback stopped short of claiming that he had positively identified Nakamoto, instead hinting that the film would be “ a dramatic journey.”
While Hoback and HBO seem to hint that there will be a major reveal, the film's official trailer and Hoback's statements do not specify whether an individual will be identified.
Instead, Hoback's X post and the movie trailer open up the possibility that Nakamoto could be an individual, a group of people, or someone who has been overlooked in previous investigations.
The investigation into the identity of Bitcoin's founder has intrigued the cryptocurrency community since the mysterious figure disappeared in December 2010.
Over the years, several candidates have been XEM , and as Cointelegraph recently reported, even the FBI has neither confirmed nor denied that they have a file on Nakamoto’s identity.
At one point, Craig Wright – a computer scientist involved in the development of Bitcoin – claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. However, he has since retracted this claim in official affidavits.
