Spot On Chain recently reported that Vitalik Buterin , co-founder of Ethereum, decided to sell some of his memecoins as well as USDT . According to information from Chinese crypto journalist and blogger Colin Wu, the specific amounts that Buterin sold on exchanges include: 70.71 million Neiro, 11.76 billion MOODENG , 7.8 million DEGEN and 16.03 billion KABOSU along with 100,000 USDT - this amount was donated by the CATE project. The total value of the memecoins and USDT that Buterin sold is estimated at around $360,000, exchanged for 140.6 ETH, which happened in just half an hour.
The Lookonchain account added that Buterin received all of these memecoins for free from the developers. In addition, Spot On Chain also announced that Buterin donated 100 ETH (worth about $242,000) to the “Save Alexey & Roman” campaign, which aims to provide legal support for two imprisoned TornadoCash developers, Alexey Pertsev and Roman Storm. However, it is unclear whether this ETH was earned from selling memecoins.
Also this week, a wallet associated with Buterin transferred 649 ETH to Paxos, worth $1.79 million at the time of the transaction, which occurred amid a slight drop in ETH prices.
In another notable development, Buterin has advocated for a major update to the SuperchainERC20 protocol, as outlined in a pull request on Optimism’s GitHub. The update introduces new crosschain interfaces, SuperchainERC20Bridge and ICrosschainERC20, to enhance Ethereum’s scalability and interoperability across multiple Layer 2 solutions, thereby improving transaction efficiency and speed.
Buterin praised the spirit of collaboration within the Ethereum community, noting that many protocols are demonstrating the ability to merge without close collaboration. He also highlighted the importance of standardization at the wallet level, especially for less popular ERC20 Token and Non-Fungible Token .
