Recap
Earlier last week, we outlined the potential clues for the second round of Jupiter airdrops (Jupuary#2) in the article "Is Jupiter's Second Airdrop Coming?". The key points are as follows:
1. Including the first airdrop in January this year, Jupiter is expected to conduct a total of four airdrops, with each airdrop most likely occurring in January every year;
2. Jupiter has reserved 2.1 billion JUP tokens for the subsequent three rounds of airdrops (already factored in the burn data);
3. Jupiter founder meow has stated that the airdrops will be community-driven, and mentioned that the standards for the next round of airdrops will be "quite different" from the first round;
4. Multiple institutions have already proposed their own airdrop plans in the Jupiter governance forum, and some of these plans have gained a certain degree of community support.
A week later, there are more new clues about Jupiter's second round of airdrops, especially as meow has been actively chatting on Discord in the past few days, providing some new insights on the "snapshot time", "airdrop time", and "reference standards".
Snapshot Time
First, the most closely watched issue is the snapshot time. Although Jupiter has not yet officially announced this through social media, meow has clearly mentioned that "the (airdrop reference) standard is before November 2nd".
In response to a user's further inquiry as to whether all old users are eligible for the second round of airdrops, meow gave a clear reply that it is "users since last November" - note the use of the word "users" here, which will be elaborated on later.
So it is very clear that the reference range for Jupiter's second round of airdrops will be from November 2nd last year to November 2nd this year.
Airdrop Launch Time
Regarding the airdrop time, a user had asked "How many days are the votes open? Will the airdrop query be online on December 1st?", and meow answered "Estimated to open on November 25th", but did not specify which question he was answering.
Since meow later stated on X: "...it would break my heart to see JUP fall into the wrong hands, and in the next 2 weeks we will passionately debate the meaning of 'right'..."
It can be inferred that meow's mention of November 25th should be the start time of the airdrop voting, during which the community will vote to decide which specific airdrop plan to implement.
After the voting is completed, Jupiter will then launch the airdrop query page. Considering the time required for the voting, this page is unlikely to be released until December at the earliest.
Airdrop Standards: Controversy over Staking and Voting
In the discussions over the past two days, the biggest controversy has been over the airdrop standards, i.e. whether to consider the staking and voting behavior of JUP holders.
meow gave a clear negative answer: "Staking and voting behavior will not be included in the airdrop standards."
Considering that the voting subjects for Jupiter proposals are JUP staking users, meow's stance will inevitably face opposition from JUP holders. However, meow's logic is that the airdrop is primarily aimed at the narrow group of users who have used Jupiter's products, and staking behavior is unrelated to the airdrop (this behavior will be rewarded through the ASR module), but stakers can also receive the airdrop through their use of Jupiter's products.
Regarding the specific airdrop standards for user behavior, meow did not mention too many details (likely to be known after the voting is opened), but he did emphasize that bot addresses will be excluded to ensure the fairness of the airdrop.
Other Factors: Unlock Restrictions
In addition to the above key points, another highly concerned issue is the lock-up restriction on the airdropped tokens.
meow himself mentioned that "the airdrop is expected to have a 1-year lock-up restriction".
However, meow also mentioned the possibility of immediate token withdrawal, saying "users can choose to lock up, or immediately withdraw 40%" - but meow also stated that this standard is not yet fully determined.
Team Attitude: Ensuring the Airdrop Reaches the Right Hands
This morning, meow himself, after concluding the community discussion, posted on X to express his thoughts on the second round of airdrops.
"As we are about to embark on what may be the most controversial vote in Jupiter's history, I want everyone to know some important things. JUP is a precious strategic reserve, the result of my lifelong efforts and the efforts of our team, and we will not be careless with it - it would break my heart to see JUP fall into the wrong hands. Over the next two weeks, we will passionately debate the meaning of 'right' - no matter the outcome, I hope everyone believes that I will always consider the long-term interests of JUP."
As one of the most successful projects in the Solana ecosystem to date, Jupiter received considerable praise for the design of its first airdrop, and the JUP token has also performed well since then. As the second round of airdrops approaches, we have reason to believe that Jupiter will once again deliver a satisfactory result for the majority of users.
