Russia’s Energy Ministry Proposes Restrictions on Crypto Mining in Regions Affected by Energy Shortages

According to a report by TASS, the Russian Ministry of Energy has officially proposed a measure to restrict cryptocurrency mining activities in certain special regions affected by energy shortages. An unnamed source said that the official proposal will be implemented in December this year, and emphasized: "The Ministry of Energy does indeed have a proposal, which will be discussed at the government committee meeting on November 18." The Ministry of Energy stated that the proposed restrictions are reasonable, as some regions are expected to experience energy shortages. The ministry explained, "It is wise to prohibit cryptocurrency mining in regulated and fiscally critical areas, as well as in areas with electricity price subsidies, during the expected period of energy shortage."
