Atkins, a former SEC Commissioner, served during the George W. Bush administration as a Republican nominee, and is currently the CEO of financial consulting firm Patuxent Global Partners. He is considered a pro-crypto figure who has contributed to the development of virtual asset regulations as the co-chair of the Token Alliance of the Digital Chamber of Commerce.
Atkins is expected to take office after the current SEC Chairman Gary Gensler resigns at noon on January 20th next year.
