On 12/12, Will Harbone officially launched LongGame, a $40 million Venture Capital fund dedicated to advancing longevity biotechnology.
This initiative aims to revolutionize health, extending human lifespan (increasing lifespan by at least a decade) through investments in innovative areas such as stem cell research, gene editing, and rejuvenation.
According to project information, LongGame is targeting early-stage Biotech startups with scalable technologies, emphasizing investments in preseed and seed rounds. In addition to funding, the project aims to connect Biotech and Decentralized Science (DeSci), fostering collaboration between traditional life sciences and emerging decentralized technologies.
Currently, the fund is planning to integrate tools like DAOs to rationalize drug discovery and encourage patient-oriented research. Over the next four years, LongGame intends to strategically allocate capital while supporting the global scalability of its portfolio companies.
LongGame's leadership team includes COO Chloe Northcott; Special Advisor Sebastian A. Brunemeier, General Partner at Healthspan Capital; Dr. Manish Chamoli, the fund's Scientific Director, with extensive experience and expertise in aging biology and longevity research at the Buck Institute. The fund also features experts from various fields, including healthcare science and Biotechnology, to drive its mission.
With LongGame's team, Will Harbone envisions leveraging Blockchain innovations like tokenization, community fundraising, and liquidity solutions to address funding gaps in longevity research. These mechanisms aim to democratize access to longevity therapies, ensuring they benefit a broad population, rather than being exclusive to the wealthy.
"Our goal is to fund therapies that not only extend lifespan; we are seeking solutions that can truly extend healthy human lifespan - an additional 30 years or more. We are addressing the root causes of aging, not just the symptoms, and we want to ensure these longevity therapies are accessible to the public, not just the wealthy."
Will Harbone emphasized
The LongGame founder believes that longevity innovation has the potential to disrupt global industries, much like Cryptocurrency has reshaped traditional finance.
Meanwhile, this fund's move aligns with the broader trend of Crypto leaders venturing into the longevity space. Last year, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong co-founded NewLimit, a Biotech company that has raised $40 million to advance age-related therapies.
