The hack was made possible after their child installed a Roblox exploit, which disabled the computer’s virus protection and gave attackers remote access to the system, including the Coinbase account secured by a local pass key. Here’s how to protect yourself: 1️⃣ Pass Keys & 2FA Coinbase will suggest setting up a pass key and using your computer as the default device. However, to harden your security, you should add an external 2FA app like Google Authenticator and use an external pass key (e.g., YubiKey, Ledger Flex/Stacks) to prevent unauthorized access. 2️⃣ Storing Large Amounts of Crypto Safely For large amounts of crypto, always store them in a hardware wallet. While exchanges like Coinbase are essential for trading, offloading, and cashing out, it’s critical to minimize risk by keeping your significant holdings offline.
