Among them, spot ETF funds cumulatively increased their holdings by 561,781 Bits, and the total AUM of US ETFs has reached 1.4 million Bits, with BlackRock's IBIT holding the largest amount of 542,653 Bits, valued at around $54 billion. On the public company side, they increased their holdings by 297,673 Bits in 2024, with MicroStrategy purchasing nearly 250,000 Bits through active financing strategies, and currently holding 439,000 Bits. The report points out that although about 230,000 Bits came from bankruptcy liquidations and seized assets (including Mt. Gox and the German government), institutional demand effectively absorbed the selling pressure. Odaily reported that since the US presidential election, Bit has risen 55%, and has surpassed 140% so far this year. Bitwise Asset Management Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan pointed out three "unstoppable" sources of demand for Bit, namely ETFs, Microstrategy, and the government itself potentially becoming a Bit buyer. He added: "It ultimately comes down to supply and demand. Demand is too high, supply is insufficient, so I think the price will be higher in 2025." Wall Street is becoming increasingly optimistic about cryptocurrencies, especially with the prospect of Trump's second term. In 2024, long-term Bitcoin holders (especially those holding Bitcoin for 6-12 months) will become the main contributors to selling pressure. These tokens were mainly acquired earlier this year, accounting for 38.5% of the $27.3 billion in realized gains since November. Meanwhile, Bitcoin held for over three years is relatively dormant, suggesting higher price levels may be needed to stimulate their sale. The report notes this is a natural cycle in the Bitcoin market - as prices rise, long-term holders distribute wealth, allowing new investors to absorb the supply. Despite the large profit-taking by long-term holders, new investors have shown resilience, providing the liquidity to sustain Bitcoin's upward momentum. Metrics related to short-term holders (STH) highlight their ability to withstand market adjustments without triggering cascading sell-offs. Additionally, the current Bitcoin cycle has seen lower volatility compared to previous bull runs. The maximum drawdown in August was 32%, significantly lower than previous cycle adjustments. Analysts attribute this stability to increased institutional participation, with the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs and widespread digital asset adoption driving this trend. This institutional demand, in addition to buying pressure from new retail investors, has greatly supported the market, ensuring liquidity during sell-offs and supporting price resilience.

Glassnode: Bitcoin long-term holders make an average of $2.1 billion a day, and their holdings are reallocated to new investors
