ToggleThe editor marked the wrong link, a mess at the initial launch
The main purpose of Binance Alpha is to provide exposure for early-stage projects, with new coins announced every night at 6 pm Taiwan time in the Binance Web 3 wallet. Binance launched this activity mainly to improve transparency before listing, and users can also see token information on the page, including token type, mainnet, market cap, trading volume, etc. At the same time, Binance also provides users with the option for quick trading.
However, at the initial launch, the official account actually pinned the wrong community link, and a fake Binance Alpha announcement appeared in the fake community, causing great confusion for users. Subsequently, the product manager also went online to respond to the community's questions in the AMA.
Binance Alpha is still dominated by Meme
The following is a summary of the 32 coins selected for Binance Alpha so far (as of December 24):
Previously, CZ had stated that he believes meme coins are becoming strange, and that people should focus on the parts of the blockchain that are truly doing something. Subsequently, Binance also listed a decentralized exchange on the BNB Chain. So what are the standards for Binance Alpha's coin listings? In fact, according to statistics, of the current 32 coins, 9 are meme coins, accounting for 28%, which is currently the largest category on the platform.
So how about the AI part? There are 8 coins related to AI (including AI meme), of which 4 are AI agents, including aixbt on the Virtuals platform, GRIFFAIN on Solana, and AICell on the BNB Chain. However, the emerging ones are mainly new AI agent topics, rather than the traditional computing power or storage-related DePIN topics.
In the DeSci part, the previously introduced URO and RIF have both been listed, and the news that BIO Protocol will be listed on Binance next year may provide room for speculation. In addition, there are 6 DeFi coins and 3 Dex coins. The author is quite surprised that the DAO topic, which is generally considered to be a shell, has also launched 3 coins, all of which are on the BNB Chain, namely CKP, KOGE, and COOKIE.
40% of the coins on Binance Alpha are built on BNB
As for the rumor that Binance Alpha is just BNB self-indulging, and other chains are just accompanying, is this really the case? According to statistics, of the current 32 coins, 9 are Solana coins, 4 are on the Base chain, 6 are on the Ethereum mainnet, and 13 are on the BNB Chain. In percentage terms, they are 28%, 12.50%, 18.75%, and 40.60% respectively. This does seem to indicate a tendency to support the BNB Chain.
The median market cap of Binance Alpha at launch is 102M
In terms of market cap, the average is around 162M, and the median is 102.5M. This meets Binance's expectation of not listing coins with too high a market cap. Among these 32 coins, the ones with a relatively high market cap are mainly concentrated in DeFi protocols.
Looking at the listed coins, there are also bitcoin collateralized lending protocol PSTAKE, the decentralized liquidity platform Orderly related to the Woo Network and Kronos Research team, the trading bot CLANKER on Base, a16z partner-invested ai16z, and the controversial LUCE. We have previously mentioned that Chillguy's listing on Binance may have opened a window for LUCE.
Does Binance Alpha have a wealth effect? Community statistics data: Not necessarily
As for whether the listing on Binance Alpha is good or bad for the coin price, @sankin_eth has summarized the gains and losses of the first 29 tokens, and found that there is no so-called general rise phenomenon. Small-cap coins may still have the potential to double, but not the kind of 10-fold increase seen in the listing of PNUT and ACT at the time.
Compared to Binance Labs' investment positions, the overlapping ones are: PSTAKE, Orderly, and APX Finance. Less than 10%, but with Binance's intention to support BNB, this percentage may rise.
