What is the most popular crypto narrative in 2024?
So far, the most popular crypto narrative in 2024 is the Meme coin narrative, which has attracted 30.67% of global investor interest across the main Meme coin narrative and 25 Meme coin trends. In other words, as the market rapidly expands from Meme coins related to dogs to other Meme coins themed on animals and personalities, nearly a third of crypto narrative interest this year has been focused on more speculative opportunities rather than fundamentals.
Specifically, the main Meme coin narrative ranks first with a 14.36% share of crypto narrative interest. This is an increase of 6.04 percentage points from the 8.32% Meme coin narrative interest last year.
In addition to the overall Meme coin narrative, four Meme coin trends have successfully entered the top 20 crypto narratives: Solana meme coins rank 4th with a 7.65% narrative interest share, Base meme coins rank 11th with a 2.13% share, AI meme ranks 15th with 1.49%, and cat-themed Meme coins rank 16th with a 1.19% share.
AI-related narratives attract 16% of investor interest
Another popular crypto narrative in 2024 is the AI narrative, which accounts for a total of 15.67% of investor interest across the overall AI narrative and 5 other AI-related narratives.
The overall popularity of AI this year ranks second, accounting for 12.58% of investor interest. Although this is an increase of 1.26 percentage points from the 11.32% interest share last year, the popularity of the AI narrative is still lower compared to the Meme coin narrative.
In addition to the overall AI narrative and the AI meme coin trend, the AI agent narrative also entered the top 20 with a 1.17% investor interest share.
RWA and DePIN gain attention
Compared to the previous year, other popular crypto narratives that received more attention in 2024 are the Real World Assets (RWA) and DePIN narratives.
The investor interest share of RWA increased by 2.16 percentage points, from 6.48% in 2023 to 8.64% in 2024. As a result, its popularity ranking rose from 6th to 3rd. Similarly, the popularity of the DePIN narrative rose from 13th to 8th, with its investor interest share increasing by 1.56 percentage points.
On the other hand, the popularity of the GameFi narrative has declined, with its investor interest share decreasing by 6.77 percentage points from 10.49% in 2023 to 3.72% in 2024.
Growing interest in Solana and Base-related narratives
Solana-related narratives have collectively attracted 14.30% of investor interest, ranking second in popularity after the AI narrative. Although Solana meme coins have attracted nearly half the attention, investors are still interested in the broader Solana ecosystem, which ranks 5th with 5.78% of investor interest. The Pump.fun narrative itself only accounts for 0.61% of investor interest, which may reflect its overlap with the Solana meme coin narrative.
At the same time, as the popularity of the blockchain has increased, two Base-related narratives have also entered the top 20 this year. Overall, the narratives of the Base ecosystem and Base meme coins account for 4.87% of investor interest.
In summary, 5 out of 67 blockchain ecosystems have entered the top 20 crypto narratives in 2024. In addition to Solana and Base, these popular blockchain ecosystem narratives also include the Ethereum ecosystem (1.82% investor interest share), the Sui ecosystem (1.04%), and the TON ecosystem (0.85%).
