Forget the memecoin super cycle, AI Agents outperform everything, and much more. The following chart compares the price performance of AI Agents and other narratives:
The overall market capitalization of AI Agents narratives has increased by 7000% in the past 3 months (driven by new products), while Memecoins have only increased by 15.19%.
As shown in the chart below, considering the volatility of the newly launched AI tokens, AI Agents have also performed excellently in the past 30D, with an increase of 75%, while Memecoin has decreased by 25%.
There are several reasons to compare Memecoin with AI Agents:
First, the memecoin craze was driven by low-float, high FDV VC tokens. Most AI Agents are mindful of these cautionary tales and have launched with little or no VC funding.
More importantly, many AI Agents tokens are launched in a similar way to memecoins on platforms like Pump.fun or AI incubation sites like Virtuals. They start trading at a low market cap, allowing early buyers to profit from the upside. Without memecoins, the performance of AI Agents could have been very different.
Secondly, AI Agents have a distinct, self-updating culture, even a "cult meme", and some utility.
For example, aixbt constantly adapts to current narratives and themes. They are also native cryptocurrencies, while OG memecoins are cultural imports from Web2 (with a few exceptions like $PENGU).
In contrast, OG memecoins are stagnant and require constant human community support to maintain relevance/vitality.
As crypto KOL redphone said, "Nothing is more tiring than memecoins."
Finally, AI Agents have successfully stolen market attention from memecoins and correspondingly achieved liquidity transfer. The author has witnessed the change in their own wallet:
A Degen hot wallet that used to trade freely, chasing hot narratives, has unconsciously shifted its portfolio from pure memecoins to AI Agents. The wallet's gains have now increased significantly, whereas if it had still held those memecoins, the returns would have been disastrous.
So, is this an AI Agents super cycle or just a simple narrative rotation?
Crypto KOL redphone mentioned in his 2025 prediction that "ordinary" memecoins will launch proxy mascot/ambassador bots (or memecoins will slowly decline into irrelevance).
This is a bold prediction, but if it does happen, it would not be surprising.
