Users of the Solana ecosystem will benefit from at least two major airdrops in January, in which hundreds of millions of tokens will be distributed to eligible users.
The first airdrop expected to take place in January will come from the Solana layer-2 gaming network Sonic, which plans to airdrop 7% of the original SONIC token supply to users on January 7.
According to a post on X on January 1, Sonic wrote that only 15% of the total 2.4 billion SONIC token supply will be traded on the airdrop day.
Around 8% of the tokens will be pre-allocated to "early supporters", while 7% will be airdropped to initial claimers. Notably, the only way to qualify for the SONIC airdrop is to be added through the TikTok social media platform.
Similar to Telegram's mini-games, Sonic has built the SonicX game right into TikTok and has chosen to reward those users directly.
Sonic has raised $12 million in a Series A funding round in June 2024.
Jupiter prepares for a $625 million "JUPuary" airdrop
Jupiter, a decentralized exchange on Solana, is preparing to airdrop around $625 million worth of native JUP (JUP) tokens to eligible users at some point in January.
In a post on X on December 27, Jupiter Uplink shared that 700 million JUP tokens — worth $625 million at current prices — will be distributed directly to users.
Jupiter shared that a total of around 2.3 million wallet addresses will be eligible to participate in the "JUPuary" airdrop program, along with a series of various tasks to help users earn more JUP.
Jupiter has chosen to distribute the tokens through a tiered rollout for users who have accumulated large trading volumes on the exchange. Any user who has accumulated over $800 in trading volume will receive 50 JUP, while users who have accumulated $14 million in trading volume will receive 20,000 JUP tokens.
Additionally, Jupiter users who have interacted with any Perps, Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA), or limit order features will also receive additional JUP tokens.
