Eligible users of the Jupiter and Sonic Airdrops - both part of the Solana ecosystem - will receive them in the coming weeks in January 2025.
Solana ecosystem users will benefit from at least two major Airdrops in January, with hundreds of millions of tokens to be distributed to eligible users.
The first Airdrop is expected to take place at the start of the new year, from the Solana layer-2 gaming network Sonic, which plans to Airdrop 7% of its original SONIC token supply to users on January 7.
According to a post on X on January 1, Sonic wrote that only 15% of the total 2.4 billion SONIC token supply will be put into circulation on the Airdrop day. Around 8% of the total tokens will be pre-allocated to "early supporters", while 7% will be Airdropped to the first claimants. Notably, the only way to qualify for the SONIC Airdrop is through participation on the TikTok social media platform.
Similar to mini-games on Telegram, Sonic has built its SonicX game directly on TikTok and chosen to reward those users directly.
Sonic has raised $12 million in a Series A funding round in June 2024. Additionally, the protocol has partnered with the Solana staking layer Solayer and reached a total of $50 million in SOL staked in its delegator group as of November.
Jupiter, an aggregator platform for decentralized exchanges on Solana, is preparing to Airdrop around $625 million worth of its native JUP (JUP) tokens to eligible users at some point in January.
In a post on X on December 27, Jupiter Uplink shared that 700 million JUP tokens - equivalent to $625 million at current prices - will be Airdropped to users. Jupiter shared that a total of around 2.3 million wallet addresses will be eligible for the "JUPuary" Airdrop, with a variety of qualifying actions to help users earn more JUP tokens.
Jupiter has chosen to distribute tokens through a tiered system based on the high trading volume users have achieved on the platform. Any user with over $800 in trading volume will receive 50 JUP, while those with $14 million in trading volume will receive 20,000 JUP tokens.
Additionally, Jupiter users who have interacted with any features like Perps, Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA), or limit orders will also receive additional JUP tokens.
The Jupiter and Sonic Airdrops will mark the second and third Airdrops on Solana in the past month, with the previous Pudgy Penguins Airdrop distributing over $1 billion worth of PENGU tokens to eligible Solana users - primarily Pudgy Penguins holders.
