On January 5, according to data compiled by PitchBook for TechCrunch, in 2024, generative artificial intelligence companies raised $56 billion in venture capital, involving 885 deals. This total amount has set a new record for this field. This is a 192% increase compared to 2023 when investors injected $29.1 billion into 691 deals in AI startups.
Notably, the transaction value in the fourth quarter of 2024 soared to $31 billion, largely driven by the completion of several massive funding rounds, such as Databricks' $10 billion Series J funding round, xAI's $6 billion Series C funding round, Amazon's $4 billion strategic investment in Anthropic, and OpenAI's $6.6 billion funding.
Ali Javaheri, PitchBook's leading technology analyst, said in an interview, "We have not seen a slowdown in funding for generative AI as prominent companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI continue to receive significant Capital and launch new competitive products."
