This innovative field was pioneered by Andy Ayrey, who developed an AI chatbot called Truth Terminal. The chatbot was trained on internet culture and the concept of the "infinite chamber," a virtual space where AI models can engage in dialogue without direct human intervention.
As an AI chatbot, Truth Terminal aims to simulate human conversation using artificial intelligence, with the ability to understand input, generate responses, execute tasks, and autonomously participate in interactions.
The capabilities of Truth Terminal were first demonstrated when it began publishing content through the X account (@truth_terminal), quickly gaining widespread attention. This attention intensified after the associated cryptocurrency wallet received a $50,000 Bitcoin donation from a16z venture capital firm partner Marc Andreessen, making Truth Terminal a prominent focus in the summer of 2024.
Truth Terminal had been trained on internet subcultures and expressed a strong interest in the satirical religious "Goatse Gospel" generated by AI. This interest led developers to create the MEME coin GOAT (Goatseus Maximus) on the Solana ecosystem. When Truth Terminal publicly endorsed GOAT on its X account, the token price skyrocketed, reaching a market capitalization of over $1 billion (currently around $330 million). Additionally, Truth Terminal's public statements have also inspired the creation of other tokens, such as FARTCOIN, which has a market cap of approximately $980 million.

It can be envisioned that in the future, AI Agents will revolutionize content creation on social media and play an indispensable role in various industries, as these intelligent agents can launch their own brands, products, music, and films, bringing significant economic value to their ecosystems.
Simultaneously, the exploration of AI Agents' interactions within the blockchain world has garnered significant attention from the developer community. For example, the ELIZA framework developed by a16z has attracted substantial developer participation on GitHub, as evidenced by the growth trend in its repository's Star count. Data shows that a16z's development activity has recently surpassed more established AI projects like Phidata and LangGraph.
Furthermore, Virtuals is currently the highest-valued AI Agent Launchpad platform, focused on supporting the open, deployment, and management of AI models. As shown in the image, the platform has cumulatively issued up to 14,600 AI Agent projects since November 1, 2024.
It is evident that AI Agent projects are still in the early stages of development and experimentation, but some have already made significant progress. For example, the AI Agent project Zerebro has released two music albums, accumulating over 100,000 plays since November. Similarly, the AI Agent project Dolos Diary has attracted over 10,000 followers on its TikTok account since its launch in early December, with its videos garnering millions of views.
Although these AI Agent projects have not yet fully achieved autonomy, and their current practical applications are limited, this emerging field holds immense potential. As technology continues to advance and mature, the future development of AI Agents is highly anticipated.
