Around the early morning of February 13th, Beijing time, X platform user Vee (@theveeman) asked CZ in a tweet thread: "CZ, do you have a pet dog?"
The recently unusually active CZ said: "Yes, not a Shiba Inu, but a Belgian Malinois."
As soon as the news came out, about a hundred people in the comments replied: What's the dog's name? Tell us its name and photo! Oh, I love dogs, I used to volunteer at an animal shelter in the US, I just casually asked, what's the dog's name? We really just want to see how cute your dog is!
Of course, these people all had the intention of creating a Memecoin. And CZ was well aware of this, so he later posted:
"An honest newbie question. How does this work? If I share my dog's name and photo, will people then create a memecoin? How do I know which one is the 'official' one? Or does it not matter at all? (I see a lot of people asking for the name and photo.)"
Afterwards, several KOL accounts in the comments explained the mechanism of Memecoins, including the consensus mechanism that among several identically named Memes, one larger one will eventually become the "official" Meme.
Then after a series of Twitter interactions, CZ later tweeted:
"I now have the answer. (Memecoin is) an interesting way of operating. I'll take about a day as usual to really consider this big decision. Respect privacy, or expose the dog's information for this cause? Oh, maybe even interact with a few memecoins on the BNB Chain."
Subsequently, someone tweeted: "Just post a random dog photo with a random name, the effect should be the same." CZ replied: "No, that would be lying. If I do it, I'll do it properly. Just sharing a photo and name of the dog."
The full story ends here. But the attentive netizens haven't let this go: they've dug up all kinds of clues about CZ's dog from various old information. On this point, there are many different opinions - some say the name is Perry, some say Bean, some say Maverick, and even Cleo and other various names. Subsequently, of course, various Meme coins have appeared frequently.
Some have even dug up a post from the Binance official account in 2020, which compiled the pet names of several Binance employees at the time, and speculate that one of them might be CZ's:
There are also people who have posted a photo of a dog wearing Binance clothing, pretending (or not pretending) that it's CZ's dog:
There are also foreign KOLs who, through very old Chinese articles and translation software, have tried to prove that CZ has another dog, a Springer Spaniel named Sadie:
There are even people offering a bounty of $100,000-$200,000 to CZ's entourage to find out the dog's name, which just shows how crazy this world can be:
Some even say, who knows CZ's former cellmate, they must have talked a lot in those four months, so you can ask them if they know the dog's name.
Currently, if CZ really releases a Meme, it will most likely be on the BNB Chain, and it's unknown whether it will be one of the names mentioned above. Meme enthusiasts are already poised and ready with BNB on the chain. It's also possible that in the current environment, CZ chooses not to issue this Meme. In any case, the answer will be revealed tomorrow.
