Foresight News reported that Dom Bei, the founder of the non-profit Bitcoin organization Proof of Workforce, is running for a seat on the board of directors of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). CalPERS manages a $500 billion pension fund and serves more than 2 million public sector retirees. If elected, Bei would be the first openly Bitcoin-supporting member of the 13-person board.
Dom Bei has currently received the support of California State Senator Ben Allen, Tony Vazquez of the California Commission on Equity, Santa Monica Mayor Lana Negrete, Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim, and Garrett Childers, the president of Santa Monica Firefighters Local 1109.
