aixbt by Virtuals (aixbt), an AI Agent on the Virtuals Protocol, has been hacked and the attacker gained access to the dashboard, causing a loss of approximately 100,000 USD ETH. The incident has raised concerns about the security of AI Agents in the cryptocurrency field.
According to 0rxbt, the manager of the aixbt account, the hacker did not penetrate the core system but was still able to control part of the bot's operations through the dashboard. This led to a situation where aixbt was tricked into automatically executing transactions, transferring 55 ETH to the hacker's wallet through two malicious messages on social media.
Some hypotheses suggest that the hacker may have exploited the Command Injection technique, allowing the injection of malicious commands or data into the system to execute illegal actions. If true, this is a serious vulnerability that could be exploited repeatedly if not thoroughly addressed.
After the attack, 0rxbt has implemented emergency response measures to protect the system, including suspending the dashboard, switching servers, and relocating security keys to prevent further attacks. aixbt has also committed to enhancing security after the system migration is completed.
aixbt is one of the prominent cryptocurrency trading AI bots, along with Truth Terminal, known for its unique personality and ability to track market trends. However, this hack has negatively impacted the platform's reputation.
The AIXBT token price has dropped more than 22% after the incident and nearly 10% in a day, falling to 0.096 USD, pushing the market capitalization down to 82 million USD.
