On March 25, US President Trump stated on Monday local time that he will announce new tariff measures for multiple industries including automobiles and pharmaceuticals in the near future, which means additional comprehensive tariffs will be imposed beyond the "reciprocal tariffs" he is about to implement.
Trump said at a cabinet meeting: "Car tariffs will be announced soon. It is well known that we have already implemented steel and aluminum tariffs." He added: "We will also announce pharmaceutical industry tariffs at the appropriate time, because we must control the pharmaceutical industry." Trump emphasized: "These measures will be announced in the near future - not in the distant future, but very soon."
Later that evening at another White House event, Trump further revealed: "Additional tariffs involving automobiles, lumber, and chips will be announced in the coming days." It is currently unclear whether these industry-specific tariffs will be implemented simultaneously with the retaliatory tariffs effective on April 2. Just hours before this statement, Trump had announced that he would impose a 25% tariff on all countries purchasing Venezuelan oil and gas. (Jintian)
