China Imposes Additional 34% Tariff on US Goods from April 10 and Expands "Unreliable Entities" List to 11 US Companies
On April 4, the Chinese government officially announced that it will apply an additional 34% tariff on certain imported goods from the United States, effective from April 10, 2025. This move is seen as part of a strategy to retaliate against the US's strict trade and technology policies, while also increasing tensions between the world's two largest economies.
According to information from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, this new tariff measure will directly affect many goods originating from the US, especially high-tech products and strategic materials. The decision was made after China accused the US of "interfering with legitimate trade activities" and "imposing unreasonable restrictions on Chinese enterprises".
In addition to the tariffs, China also announced the addition of 11 US companies to the list of unreliable entities. This is a list that includes businesses that Beijing considers to have actions harmful to national interests, threatening security, or violating principles of fair trade. Being added to this list can lead to punitive measures such as import and export bans, investment restrictions, and other transaction prohibitions in China.
The latest move from Beijing comes against the backdrop of continuing deterioration in US-China trade relations, especially in key areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy. Observers note that these trade retaliation measures could increase risks to the global supply chain, affecting many international companies dependent on both large markets.
