Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's personalized flying habits have unexpectedly become the focus of attention. According to disclosures by Bloomberg and other media, a document allegedly leaked from a private jet service provider NetJets during a hacker attack details the "flight service guide" for this global richest person, revealing his near-minimalist yet "tech-geek" specific requirements for flight experiences.
The leaked documents reportedly contain a custom "service manual" for Musk, with the most notable requirement being an extreme pursuit of "silence". The report quotes the document stating that Musk explicitly instructs crew members to remain as quiet as possible, and they should not engage in conversation or provide services beyond meals unless he initiates communication.
"Crew members should not provide any technical assistance. Mr. Musk believes he can be self-sufficient and does not need technical help - if he needs something, he will ask."
This service guide for Musk emphasizes minimizing interaction, seemingly to ensure he has absolutely undisturbed personal time during flights, whether for deep thinking, handling work, or simply resting. The guide notes that even on short flights, Musk typically tries to catch some sleep.
Besides requiring silence, Musk likes low temperatures, with air conditioning precisely set to around 18°C, dimmed lights, air vents closed to avoid noise, and most importantly, stable Wi-Fi.
Besides Sleeping, Musk Also Wants to Play Games
Beyond the "silent and undisturbed" environment, stable and high-speed internet connection is indispensable for Musk during flights, which undoubtedly seems like an advertisement for his Starlink satellite network. Musk livestreamed playing Diablo IV on his private plane in 2024, a successful product marketing event. The leaked documents confirm the importance of internet connectivity, not just for work, but possibly to satisfy his gaming urges while in the air, even if he might not play well.

Just last week, Musk livestreamed playing Path of Exile 2, showing a very dim cabin with smooth internet, but his game character repeatedly died, leading to intense mockery from netizens, causing Musk to look upset and eventually go offline.

Remember Electric Planes?
Although Musk's requirements might sound somewhat "willful", they also reflect top business professionals' demand for customized services. Meanwhile, a more forward-looking question emerges: With the development of electric aircraft technology, what will the future of air travel look like? If electric planes can truly achieve low-cost, low-noise, zero-emission flights, could "private jets" - currently seeming extremely expensive - become more accessible, allowing more people to enjoy point-to-point, personalized air travel?
As of now, NetJets has denied that the leaked content is true.
