According to ChainCatcher, citing Jinshi news, the EU and the United States made little progress in bridging trade differences this week, with officials from President Trump's administration stating that most of the obstructive tariffs imposed by Trump will not be lifted. On Monday, EU Trade Commissioner Šefčovič met with the US Secretary of Commerce and US Trade Representative Lighthizer for about two hours, but the goals of the US side remained unclear.
Sources said that US officials indicated that the "reciprocal" tariff policy and other tariffs targeting industries including automobiles and metals would not be immediately canceled.
