PANews reported on April 24 that according to Bitcoin.com, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior issued a statement on April 22, declaring cryptocurrency mining as an illegal activity, stating that it violates multiple national laws and puts pressure on electrical infrastructure. The ban involves laws such as the 1970 Criminal Law Amendment No. 31, the 2014 Communication and Information Technology Regulation Law No. 37, the 1996 Industrial Law No. 56, and the 2016 Municipal Regulation No. 33.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior pointed out that unauthorized cryptocurrency mining leads to "excessive energy consumption and increased public grid load", causing power interruptions in residential, commercial, and industrial areas, basic service supply. The warning warned was jointly issued of by the of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy Authority, the Information Technology Authority, the Industrial and Municipal Departments. The authorities demanded that relevant mining entities "immediately rectify" and emphasized that legal measures will be taken against violators, including referring them to to investigative departments.
