The poll revealed that when asked "Would the United States truly protect Japan in an emergency situation", 77% of respondents held a negative view, with only 15% expressing belief. The Asahi Shimbun pointed out that in previous similar surveys, the percentage of respondents with a negative attitude towards this question had never exceeded 60%, and this survey shows a significant increase compared to previous ones.
Additionally, regarding the question "Should Japan's diplomacy follow the United States' intentions", 68% of respondents advocated for Japan to achieve diplomatic autonomy as much as possible. The poll also showed that 54% of respondents believe that "the US democratic system can no longer serve as an example for other countries". The Asahi Shimbun analyzed that the Trump administration's emphasis on "America First" has further exacerbated Japan's distrust of the United States.
