Cryptocurrency-related kidnapping attempt in Paris, global crypto crime surges

Mars Finance News: According to Decrypt, the daughter and grandson of the co-founder of the famous French cryptocurrency exchange Paymium were subjected to an attempted armed kidnapping in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. Four masked perpetrators attempted to forcibly take the victims away but ultimately fled due to the victims' resistance and bystander intervention. According to security expert Jameson Lopp, 22 violent crimes targeting cryptocurrency-related individuals have occurred globally in 2025, approaching the 24 cases for the entire year of 2023. Data shows that at least 6 crypto-related kidnapping incidents have occurred in France this year, including the January incident where the Ledger co-founder was kidnapped and had a finger cut off. Such crimes are showing an international trend, with ransom demands in cryptocurrency occurring in places like the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Brazil. Notably, criminals often target the family members of cryptocurrency professionals, exploiting the difficult-to-trace nature of digital currencies for extortion. The Paris police have currently seized the vehicle used in the crime, and the investigation is ongoing.
