
PANews reported on May 17th that according to Bloomberg, an informed source said that in the Coinbase data breach, Roelof Botha, a managing partner at Sequoia Capital, had his personal information stolen, including phone number, address, and other details related to his Coinbase account. Coinbase disclosed on Thursday that attackers bribed an Indian customer service representative to obtain customer data, with leaked information including names, dates of birth, addresses, nationalities, ID numbers, partial bank data, and account creation time and balance details.
Additionally, according to informed sources, major cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance and Kraken also experienced similar social engineering attacks, but their internal policies and technologies defended against these attacks, preventing the loss of customer data. One source stated that Binance discovered scammers offering bribes to their customer service personnel and providing a Telegram account to contact criminals. Binance used AI robots to identify potential bribery attempts in different languages and blocked the conversations.
