Elon Musk's AI company xAI is joining forces with messaging platform Telegram to officially launch the AI chatbot 'Grok'. Pavel Durov, Telegram's CEO, recently announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they have established a strategic partnership with xAI for one year. This will allow Telegram's 1 billion users to directly use 'Grok'.
As part of this collaboration, Telegram has secured a total investment of $300 million (approximately 411 billion won) from xAI in cash and equity. Additionally, they will receive 50% of the revenue from xAI subscription products sold through Telegram. Durov emphasized that "from this summer, Telegram users will easily enjoy the most outstanding AI technology in the market".
Grok will be accessible through the search bar within the Telegram application and is set to include various features such as conversational responses, smart text editing, chat summarization, document summarization, inbox agent, and group chat management. According to the released promotional video, this integration is designed to deeply embed Grok's functionality throughout Telegram, going beyond simple feature additions.
Musk's offensive in the AI industry continues. He has recently shown his intention to actively adopt AI technology based on Twitter to reduce information gaps, and the partnership with Telegram is seen as part of this effort. After the full-scale cooperation between the two companies, AI technology-based competition in the messenger market is expected to intensify.
