According to CoinDesk's Foresight News report, Ethereum core developer Barnabé Monnot proposed a new proposal to reduce the network slot time from 12 seconds to 6 seconds, effectively doubling the number of blocks produced per minute. The idea is part of EIP-7782 and may be included in the Glamsterdam upgrade set to launch in 2026. If the proposal is implemented, it will shorten the time of three key consensus steps: block proposal (3 seconds), attestation (1.5 seconds), and aggregation (1.5 seconds). This will reduce the current 12-second cycle to 6 seconds.
The Glamsterdam hard fork is currently in the early planning stage, focusing on Gas optimization and protocol efficiency.
