Ledger Nano S and the Challenge of Adding New Features
According to the announcement from Ledger's Chief Technology Officer, Charles Guillemet, the Nano S device currently has only 320kb of memory. This creates difficulties in supporting new applications, updates, and features. Applications like LedgerOS, Bitcoin, and Ethereum have almost filled the memory, leading to an inability to improve security features such as parallel multi-application support or authentication signing improvements.
Important Security Features
In the complex cryptocurrency environment, features like transaction verification and Ledger Sync™ are crucial. They require stronger hardware support. Although Nano S users have a standard device and have backed up their recovery phrase, their assets remain safe and accessible. Basic operations like sending, receiving, or trading popular cryptocurrencies like BTC/ETH will not be affected.
Reaction from the User Community
Previously, information about Ledger discontinuing Nano S production caused dissatisfaction among users. Many felt compelled to purchase new devices to maintain usability. Upgrading to a new device not only provides more comprehensive application support but also offers the best security experience for users in the future.
