According to ChainCatcher, Decrypt reported that former voting machine auditor Michal Pospieszalski stated that the US election system still lacks basic encryption safeguards to detect ballot tampering or duplication. He proposed adding end-to-end encryption proof to ensure the security of future elections and restore public trust. He noted that despite these vulnerabilities being discovered as early as 2006, vendors would not take action unless there is legal pressure or updated election laws.
Pospieszalski emphasized that the solution involves software rather than hardware and is based on cryptographic technology from the 1980s. The model he proposed would include three counts: paper ballots, traditional digital statistics, and a third encrypted count.
