According to ChainCatcher sources, Hassett is emerging as a top candidate for the next Federal Reserve Chair, as Trump considers appointing a leader more aligned with his stance.
It is not yet confirmed whether Hassett will ultimately be nominated. However, sources indicate that Hassett possesses advantages that others do not. He is the head of the National Economic Council and served as a key economic advisor during Trump's first term.
Hassett has worked for Trump for nearly a decade and is one of the few advisors who has both earned the president's trust and maintained a long-term good relationship. After holding two positions in Trump's first administration, he joined a private equity firm founded by Trump's son-in-law Kushner and has provided economic policy advice for Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.
Additionally, Hassett is seen as a disciplined spokesperson who is adept at handling media, a quality that Trump has long valued in his senior appointees.
Evercore IS points out that Hassett's greatest challenge will be proving to the market that despite being a loyal Trump supporter, he can maintain sufficient independence when serving as Federal Reserve Chair to preserve the Fed's credibility.
