Thailand will launch the "TouristDigiPay" plan on Monday, allowing foreign tourists to convert cryptocurrency into Thai baht and achieve seamless QR code payments. The plan operates within a regulatory sandbox and is only for short-term entry tourists who have passed KYC and anti-money laundering checks.
The Bank of Thailand has introduced a "Tourist Wallet" to facilitate payments for tourists from countries that have not signed cross-border QR payment agreements. The monthly transaction limit is set between 50,000 and 500,000 Thai baht, marking an important step towards mainstream application of cryptocurrency in the tourism economy.
