ToggleTwo Chinese men accused of rape in Hong Kong
According to a report by Sing Tao Daily, two men holding two-way permits (travel permits to and from Hong Kong and Macau) are suspected of raping a woman at a hotel in Mong Kok earlier this month. Both men have been charged with rape and recently appeared in the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts for the first time (to understand the progress of the case; a trial will not be held immediately). The judge ruled that the case will be heard again on January 5th next year, and the two defendants will remain in custody in the meantime.
The two male defendants are Wang Baichuan, a 27-year-old business consultant, and Xu Zilan, a 24-year-old saleswoman. They are accused of raping a woman on November 4, 2025, at the Mong Kok Ruijing Hotel, 23 Tai Nan Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
Taiwanese crypto industry players angrily accuse the suspects of being repeat offenders.
It is understood that both defendants are professionals in the crypto and worked at the same media company. Wang Baichuan had worked at several third-tier centralized exchanges, including as a community influencer marketing manager at Hotcoin, a listing manager at WEEX, and a user growth manager at Hashkey. His last job on LinkedIn was in business at the crypto media outlet MetaEra.
Another person involved in the case, Xu Zilan , had a Web3 experience where she worked as a business development manager at MetaEra after interning at Bitget for two months.
Even more alarming, the Instagram story of a Taiwanese Web3 professional further confirms that Wang Bochuan, one of the suspects, had a history of sexual harassment. Reportedly, during the Token 2049 event organized by this Taiwanese professional in Singapore in early October, Wang Bochuan sexually harassed the professional's female colleagues and business partners, resulting in his dismissal from his company.
However, sources familiar with the matter revealed that after obtaining preliminary information, the lawyer for the woman believed that she had been set up in a honey trap. It is expected that the police will release the woman's statement, DNA report, and photographic footage tomorrow.
